When will I receive my housing assignment?
Updated August 3
Most applications have been processed and assignment notifications sent. At this time, we believe we will complete all applications submitted by the end of July during the first week of August. All students who submit an application will be offered a room assignment. With the reopening of Foster, McNutt, and Teter, we do not anticipate a need to make temporary assignments at this time.
Will my housing preferences be honored?
Due to safety measures that we must put into action, we will be contacting you about your roommate preferences and your willingness to have a roommate at this time. Please watch this website and your IU email account for more information.
Can I change or add a roommate request? Or other preferences on my application
Updated August 3
We understand that your roommate plans may have recently changed, but we cannot accept roommate requests or changes at this time. Our plan to reduce the number of on-campus residents has been approved by university Public Safety and Institutional Assurance and the Monroe County Health Department. If health and safety regulations change, we may revisit this issue.
I have been approved for a residency exemption, but now want to live on campus. Is that possible?
When your exemption was approved, your housing contract was canceled. You will need to reapply for housing and sign the contract addendum. Please contact askRPS to request to reapply.
If signed my contract and the addendum, can I still cancel my housing contract?
You may cancel your housing contract at any time. First time residents who cancel after July 31, will not be refunded the $200 housing deposit. Anyone who cancels between July 21 and August 9, may be charged a $600 cancellation fee. Any cancellations received after the contract start date of August 9 may be charged the $600 cancellation fee plus a daily room rate. Contact us at askRPS if you have questions.
IU is requiring a COVID-19 test prior to coming to campus. How is RPS facilitating this?
RPS is not overseeing the requirement of a COVID-19 test. Information will be shared from the university to student IU email accounts. Please refer to the published FAQs.
When will I get my assignment? As a returning student, I would like to confirm my assignment.
The Housing Assignments office will begin to release assignments on a rolling basis, beginning the week of July 20th. Please check your IU email account for a notification of when your assignment is released. We will be releasing building, roommate and costs first. At the end of July, you will find out your specific room number.
I am a returning student and need housing, can I live with RPS?
RPS will reopen signing of contracts for The Avenue on College and Union Street apartments the last week in July. Please complete the askRPS contact form to receive this information. Information on The Avenue and Union Street Center can be found on our website.
I am a returning student who signed a housing contract during the renewal window. Am I being de-densified?
The majority of our returning students for 2020-21 are in a single occupancy space such as a single room in an apartment or as part of a suite. As a result the university has decided that this satisfies the requirements for “single occupancy” living arrangement. If you share a common space with others, such as a kitchen or bathroom, Residential Life staff will facilitate a shared space agreement between all students who share these common areas. Information on students who you share an apartment and suite with, will be released through the My Housing website by the end of July.
If you reside in Mason and would like to be removed from a roommate situation, please complete the askRPS contact form to let us know.
If you have decided that living on campus is no longer feasible for you, you may cancel your housing contract by going to the Cancel Housing app and log in, then you should select the "Request to Cancel Housing" and follow all prompts. Cancellations received before July 31 will not receive the $600 cancellation fee.
I am a returning student and I'm interested in living at the Biddle at the IMU. What can you tell me?
Can I be given a random roommate?
In a normal year, RPS typically assigns a roommate to those requesting a double, if a roommate was not self-selected. However, due to COVID-19 concerns, we are unable to do so for the upcoming school year.
RPS also makes every effort to assign students that request a single room, to a single room. However, this is not always be possible. Students that are concerned about the additional cost associated with being assigned to a double room as a single have the option to move down a room type to assure that their total cost of housing is lower. Room type and pricing information is available on our RPS website.
I am a transfer student, what housing is available for me?
The housing we are offering transfer students will be furnished apartments such as Union Street Center (on campus) and The Avenue (off campus). Please keep in mind that the availability for any of these locations is subject to change. Furthermore, you cannot specifically select any of these locations in the application, rather you fill out a neighborhood preference and room type preference.
The housing application can be found in at the Housing for Incoming Students app. Fill out the pre-requisites, then select the "residence hall" contract for the 20-21 academic year.
Information on the actual housing locations is available on our RPS website.
On the Addendum, it mentions "vacating". What does this mean?
On the Residence Halls and Furnished Apartments Housing Contract Addendum statement #6, it discusses vacating your assigned room by November 25, 2020. This means you will not be able to stay in your room from this date through February 4, 2021. You do not need to move completely out of your room but are encouraged to take any items of value, items you will need for complete online classes during the intercessions, as well as any belongings you may need while not staying on campus. Once you vacate your space in November, you will not be permitted to return to campus until February 4, 2021.
I wasn't able to complete the addendum, or I got an error. What do I do? Can I confirm that I completed it somewhere?
Please visit our RPS Assignment form website to ensure you're clicking on the proper link. Be sure to select the option for you (Over 18 Residence Hall Addendum –or– Under 18 Residence Hall Addendum). A confirmation email will be sent to your IU email account and any other email addresses you entered on the form.
If you click on the appropriate addendum link and it states, "your submit limit for this form has been met", means we have your signed addendum on file. If you are under 18, follow up with your parent/guardian to confirm they have submitted their electronic signature as well.
Do I need to reapply if I decide to stay home for the fall semester and come to campus for the sprong semester?
You must cancel your contract and reapply in October for spring semester housing. We cannot guarantee a particular space or assignment for the spring semester. Assignments will be made based on your new application date
Can I change my housing assignment?
All housing assignments are final, and we are not able to offer room changes.
