Fall 2020

As all of us find our way forward through this pandemic, we’re faced with changing the ways we live.  Life in the residence halls will be affected and may be different this fall than you had envisioned.

We’re making adjustments to our operations to maintain a safe living environment for all of our residents and staff.

As we finalize our plans to open for the fall semester, please see our FAQ on this page and the university’s Fall 2020 website. We’ll contact our new and returning residents with additional information in the coming weeks.

We look forward to welcoming you to campus.

You will not be able to have guests stay overnight in your residence hall. We may limit the number of guests and may not allow any guests to visit your room.

Will the elevators be restricted to one person at a time?

Elevators are contained spaces and you should always wear a face covering when you use one. We may impose limits on the number of passengers. Individuals with accessibility concerns will be given priority to use the elevators. Residents assigned to lower numbered floors in high-rise buildings will be encouraged to use the stairways. More specific information will be available before we open.

Can COVID travel through the ventilation system in my residence hall?

Air systems are being inspected and will be maintained according to CDC guidelines.

Will I be able to open the windows to get fresh air?

For the HVAC systems to work properly, the windows do not open.

Most floors do have a resident assistant who resides there. When this is not the case, a staff member will be residing on an adjacent floor.

Will a student assigned to a double room without a roommate pay more than two students assigned as roommates to a double room?

The cost for a double room assigned as a single room will increase 15 – 25 percent over the per student room cost for that space. Dropping to the next lower amenities category can offset this increase. Lower cost housing options are also available through the Cooperative Housing program and the Residence Scholar program.

Will you be reducing housing cost because students will be on-campus for fewer days?

We expect to use the housing rates as approved by the Board of Trustees.

If you are assigned a signal as a double you will be changed more. If your assigned room type and rate do not meet your expectations, you can cancel by July 20 and receive a $200 refund. If you cancel July 21 or later you will not receive a fund and will be a charged a cancellation fee. See your housing contract for details.

Beds will be as far apart as possible within rooms - generally six feet. When possible, we have tried to locate the beds on the floor and separated with a wardrobe or desk. For student safety we strongly encourage residents to leave the beds arranged as they are at move in.
