Why do I have to move?
We are requiring all residents impacted by the flood to move due to the intrusive nature of the repairs. Flooring cannot be replaced while furniture is in the room.
Is there an option to stay in Foster while my room is fixed?
If you want to stay in Foster during the repairs, you would need to opt for a permanent room change. Based on available space in the center you would need to be prepared to have a new roommate.
Where am I being moved to?
You will have a choice about where to move if you chose permanent relocation. There are empty double rooms available if you want to stay with your roommate. There are also limited spaces in our enhanced cost housing options.
If you choose the temporary relocation, you will be assigned to a space in Ashton Hershey.
Can I stay with my current roommate when I relocate temporarily or permanently?
If you choose to relocate permanently with your roommate we will do our best to accommodate those requests. We do have some completely empty doubles in our inventory.
When do I have to complete my move?
All moves must be completed by 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29.
I’m not available to move before Sept. 29. Can I get an extension?
If you are not in Bloomington, or have other concerns about the move timeline, please connect with the Foster Leadership Team at the Foster Center desk as soon as possible.
What if I cannot move all my items?
Moving assistance is being provided by RPS. If there are items you cannot move alone, you must ensure they are appropriately boxed and labeled to be delivered to you.
What if I have items that are too big to box?
Large or bulky items that cannot be boxed, should be clearly labeled with your name, room number, and email address. Our moving team will be prepared to handled large and bulky items.
What do I need to pack?
If you are permanently relocating, you will need to pack all of your personal belongings to be delivered to your new assignment.
If you are temporarily relocating to Ashton Hershey we recommend that you take a week’s worth of clothing, personal hygiene items and medication, bed linens, academic resources (books, computers, chargers, etc.), and important personal items that you cannot be without for at least two weeks.
Will moving supplies be provided?
Yes, moving supplies will be available at the Foster Center Desk.
Will packing assistance be provided?
Neither RPS staff nor our vendors will be able to provide packing assistance.
When can I begin my move?
You may begin moving the day after you meet with our Assignments and Residence Life representatives.
If I move permanently, will I be responsible for any differences in cost between Foster and my new residence hall?
Yes, if you choose to move to a new location permanently that is in a higher price range (single room, or enhanced cost housing) you will be billed the additional cost for that room. Those price differences will be discussed with you during your meeting with our Assignments and Residence Life representatives.
What will my room rate be if I move temporarily?
If you choose the temporary relocation, your room rate will not change. For security reasons we will be adjusting your assignment, so you will see credits and debits on your bursar account, but the end result will be no additional charges.
Will I be able to return to my room during the repairs?
No, you will not have access to your room, or items placed in storage, during the repairs.
Will I be able to return to my floor during the repairs?
If you choose temporary relocation, you can return to your floor to visit those not impacted by the move requirement. If you choose a permanent relocation, you will only be able to return to your current floor with a permanent resident of the community as an escorted guest.
What repairs are being completed?
RPS custodial staff will be cleaning and disinfecting all furniture as it is moved to storage, and then prior to it being reinstalled in the room.
One vendor will be removing all tile flooring and baseboard and replacing it with new once they have ensured the subfloor is dry. A different vendor will be removing and replacing insulation from inside the HVAC system, and checking the system for proper functioning.
Hallway carpet in the impacted area will also be replaced.
Will other tests be done in my room?
Currently our EHS staff does not plan to re-enter student rooms for additional inspections. They will continue their routine monitoring of our public spaces.
If at anytime you are concerned about environmental health issues in your room, you can request an inspection by completing the askRPS contact form and choosing Maintenance Concern, and then Environmental Health Concern.
