CommUNITY Education

Building a community of unity

The CommUNITY Education Program is an educational experience focused on shaping the residential environment to be a place of learning and growth related to community, collective and individual identity, and social justice. There are 18 CommUNITY Educators (CUEs) total, with one in each residence hall and two in McNutt, Eigenmann, Teter, and Foster, three Assistant Coordinators for Community Education who supervise the CUEs, and one Program Director. The CommUNITY Education Program is part of Residence Life within the Office of Student Life.

What does a CommUNITY Educator do?

A CommUNITY Educator lives within the residence hall and creates and implements educational experiences for students related to community building, identity development, and social justice. These may include workshops, bulletin boards, information tabling, individual engagements, campus-wide programs, and more. CommUNITY Educators also plan and implement micro-lessons during the in-center staff meetings to resident assistants, graduate students, and professional staff in their residence halls.

CUEs frequently work with other staff members and organizations to develop and implement programs. If you have an idea for a program, please contact the CUE in your building or one of our graduate or professional staff members at cuep@iu.edu.
