Housekeeping

Housekeeping

Our staff takes care of cleaning bathrooms, public areas, and routine maintenance. It’s up to you to attend to the daily care of your personal property and room or apartment. Residence Life staff will complete Health and Safety Inspections with you in your room at least once a semester to help address any concerns.

During break periods throughout the academic year, our maintenance and custodial teams perform focused cleaning and maintenance.

This work includes:

  • Buffing floors in public areas
  • Changing filters and cleaning HVAC units
  • Cleaning bathrooms in detail
  • Inspecting smoke detectors and other fire prevention equipment
  • Wiping down flat surfaces including bookshelves, desktops, and windowsills

Residents are notified of the work scheduled for their building and need to prepare their rooms by removing items from affected areas and placing them on the bed(s).

Preventing bugs, odors, and rodents

Carelessly handling food and trash will cause unpleasant odors and attract bugs and rodents. Please practice these behaviors to maintain a healthy environment.

Food waste

  • Clean spills when they occur and regularly clean the counter tops, microwaves, stove tops, tabletops, etc.
  • Dispose of uneaten food as soon as possible by using a garbage disposal in the apartment or removing it to a designated trash collection area.
  • Regularly place trash in the designated area and don’t allow it to pile up in your apartment or room.
  • Please wash dirty dishes as soon as possible using a kitchenette sink. Avoid disposing of any food waste in bathroom sinks, as this can lead to plumbing problems.

Refrigerator

  • Arrange food so air can circulate freely inside a refrigerator. If it’s packed too full, it will not cool properly.
  • Keep food tightly covered or wrapped.
  • Regularly remove expired items in the refrigerator and immediately place them in your designated trash collection area.
  • Periodically wipe down the inside of your refrigerators.
